Israel’s eVigilo Ltd. installs the IDF Home Front Command’s “National Message” system in Chile

The Israeli company eVigilo, recently completed installing a warning system in Chile, which will alert Chileans of approaching tsunamis directly to their cellphones.

The system, based on the National Message system originally developed for the IDF’s Home Front Command, employs cell broadcast technology that can relay text messages to users without being affected by everyday cellular traffic. The Israeli system was designed to warn civilians in areas under attack of approaching missiles via beepers, SMS messages on mobile phones (with a special ring tone – authorization of the Ministry of Communications still pending), and by other communication channels.

Chile is plagued by frequent earthquakes, with the most recent one triggering a devastating tsunami. With the new eVigilo national message system, Chileans will now have ample warnnig of imminent danger through a central alert system.

In conjunction with the Chilean Ministry of Communications and their Home Front Command, in the first stage of the multi-million dollar project, the Israeli system was linked to all of the country’s cellular operators…
